Corner of Love Ministries, an outreach to the people of Nicaragua, is about to open its new office in Maple Valley and continue its drive for needy Nicaraguans.

A public ribbon-cutting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30 at 22142 237th St., part of the Wilderness Village center. As part of the ceremony, the community can bring donations of over-the-counter medications such as cold medicines and hydrocortisone cream, toiletry items, wash cloths and money. The donations will be used in Corner of Love’s next medical-dental brigade in February, said Tanya Amador, executive director.

Two mission trips a year to Nicaragua provide medical and dental care and continue other charitable programs, such as mass shoe fittings for children. Last year, medical volunteers served more than 9,000 patients in 16 villages, thousands of people received toiletries and medicines, and 200-plus children were fitted with shoes.

Also, 32 families received financial aid from U.S. sponsor families for nutrition, schooling and therapies for disabled children.

Until now, Corner of Love leaders have worked out of houses and churches. A designated office will give the organization “a presence in our community” and a working base, said Amador.
