$7 million from state for construction

Here’s some good financial news for the Kent School District: The state is sending about $7 million to the district for major construction projects.

The allocations include $4 million for a new Panther Lake Elementary School, about $2.2 million for a partial replacement and modernizing of Mill Creek Middle School, and $748,000 for an addition to Kent-Meridian High School.

The money, in the form of matching grants for school districts that passed bond measures, is part of $354 million in capital construction funds being released to 37 districts throughout Washington. A combined 58 projects are involved.

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Terry Bergeson, who announced the funding in July, said the state funding and nearly $690 million in capital bonds approved by voters will bring more than $1 billion into the state’s economy.
