Ashley Skinner, a student at Kentlake High School, has been selected as the student president of the Washington Vocational Sports Medicine Association.

Skinner picked for sports medicine post

Ashley Skinner, a student at Kentlake High School, has been selected as the student president of the Washington Vocational Sports Medicine Association.

Her duties will include planning for and speaking at the Winter Leadership Conference and the 2009 State Sports Medicine Competition.

Kentwood fourth in state floral contest

The Kentwood High School FFA team finished in fourth place overall at the Washington State Floral Competition in Spokane.

In addition, two members of the Kentwood team placed in the top 10 individually.

Katie Burton, a senior, was responsible for a number of the floral arrangements at the competitions. Shane Sutton, a junior, excelled in multiple events, including plant identification.

Senior Allie Heath competed in job interview and floral design where she took fourth place overall at state.

Sophomore Ben Breshears specializes in dish gardens and has also competed in media selling.

Jordie Wierenga, a freshman, also competed in multiple individual events, including job interviews and in face-to-face sales.

Rainier Christian Schools auction raises $112,000

Rainer Christian Schools’ 11th annual auction raised more than $112,000 and was atteended by about 350 people, school officials reported.

The event April 12 benefitted the five-campus school system in the south King County area, including student scholarships and teacher salaries.

The auction’s sponsors included Frontier Bank, Pugerude Draperies, Taylor-Made Printing, Camp Berachah Ministries, Calvary Chapel South, Renton Church of the Nazarene, Wheeler Painting, New Heights Christian Church, Mark Wilson Construction and several families.
