A ban on outdoor burning in King County was lifted yesterday in areas outside the jurisdiction of the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency.

The agency restricts burning in the urban, densely populated areas. Elsewhere, fires are allowed with a permit from local fire districts, according to King County fire marshal John Klopfenstein.

For instance, in Mountain View Fire and Rescue/Fire District 44, whose service area inudes Black Diamond, the residential burn ban that began July 1 was lifted Tuesday. Residential burning includes natural vegetation and must be a pile no larger than four feet by four feet and must have a current burn permit.

More information is available from the district’s Burn Ban Line at 253-735-0286 and from Puget Sound Clean Air Agency at 1-800-552-3565 and www.pscleanair.org.
