The Kent School District’s 28 elementary schools will send teams to the district’s Battle of the Books competition this Friday at Glenridge Elementary School.

Lake Youngs Elementary School is the defending champion in the event, which began in 2002 as a program to encourage reading. Teams of fourth through sixth-graders collaborate to remember important plot elements as librarians challenge them with questions. Each school has a competition to pick its top team for the district finals.

The books for the program are from the Young Reader’s Choice or Sasquatch Award book lists.
