27 year old in custody due to fatal collision on SR 18

Washington State Patrol responded around 11:40 p.m. March 21 to reports of a serious collision on westbound state Route 18 near Southeast 231st in Maple Valley.

When troopers arrived on scene, according to a media release, they were advised that the passenger of the causing vehicle, a 28-year-old man from Seattle, had died.

And that both drivers had serious injuries.

According to witnesses, the causing vehicle — a black 1998 Acura — was traveling eastbound on SR 18 when the driver lost control, crossed the median and was hit by a pickup truck.

The driver of the truck was a 36-year-old man from Roy, he was transported to Harborview Medical Center for his injuries.

The 27-year-old female driver of the vehicle that crossed the median is from Auburn.

Troopers on scene determined she was showing signs of impairment and admitted to using Methamphetamine earlier in the evening, the media release stated.

She was placed into custody for Investigation of Vehicular Homicide and Vehicular Assault. The release added a search warrant for her blood was also granted.

Upon release from Harborview, she will be booked into the King County Jail.
