I am writing this in favor of the Kent School District Capital Improvement and School Construction Bond. As a parent of a high school student who has been in Kent schools since kindergarten, I have seen my son and his friends grow and learn from a community of dedicated educational professionals. During his time in school as well as through some community organizations, I’ve been able to volunteer and visit many schools throughout the district. I felt nostalgic in some buildings because they felt identical to when I was a child in school back east. Nostalgia is great for reunions, but not so much for learning environments, especially when new technology and building styles can bring in light, conserve energy and provide greater access for students with physical needs.

While my son will graduate before many of these physical improvements occur, our family will still reside here in Covington and it’s good to know our tax rate will remain the same. I’d like to see the current kindergartners and beyond attend a brand new Covington Elementary, but also see students across our district benefit from improvements throughout the district. I encourage you to read the information available on the bond issue before voting. I did and am voting yes.
